Black-crowned Night Heron

Nycticorax nycticorax

Notes:

These beautiful birds were once very common in Holland. They were used as food and became a delicacy. Now a days they are very rare and protected by law. As I started to take his pictures I was more then a hundred feet away and he was sitting on a fence. Step by step I came a little closer continuously taking pictures, at the end there was no more then 30 feet in between us and than he flew away.

Fantastic spotting Tony. Sad, to know that even this bird is eaten.
