Common Bronzewing

Phaps chalcoptera

Description:

A plump large pigeon with a reddish grey breast. Upper part was brown with pale feather fringes giving the wings a scaly appearance. Some of the wing feathers had a beautiful bronze and green irridescence. Pale head had a brown crown.

Habitat:

Spotted in woodlands with a few trees.

Notes:

Th[e one in the second picture was making a monotonous repetitive "oom-oom" which was being answered by another bird nearby. Although they are ground feeders, they are beautifully camouflaged on low branches.
