thanks Atul, and thanks Nuwan for the ID. When I looked on the list of butterflies found in Tamil Nadu, the Pale Yellow Clouded wasn't mentioned. So I'll go with the emigrant. It looks like the one I shot a couple of days ago, now that I look carefully. thanks all for your comments...
Another nice one! Here in North Carolina, all the leaves are covered with yellow pollen (as are the cars and everything else). The rain washes it away and an hour after it stops, everything is covered in yellow pine pollen again.

i think Nuwan has narrowed it down perfectly.
I have 2 ID's for this butterfly:
1. common emigrant female (Catopsilia pomona),
2.Pale Clouded Yellow (Colias hyale)
Anyone got any other ideas?

the poor leaves in my garden are so coated with dust. We need some rain!
