Passer Domesticus
Picture 5 is a female Spanish House Sparrow. There are many sub-species of House Sparrow with at least two in Spain, being Passer domesticus domesticus and Passer domesticus balearoibericus. The males and females are virtually identical in the field although they have slightly darker striping in the breast usually. Inter-breeding is thought to take place and it has been said that if a sparrow has a darker than normal breast it probably has at least some Spanish blood in it. In addition there is another full species, the Spanish Sparrow, where the male has an all brown crown and slightly different head pattern but the female is again virtually identical to the female House Sparrow.
