Carabid beetle

possibly Adelotopus sp.

Description:

An elongate shiny black beetle with flattened edges of the elytra and pronotum. There is a curious red spot evident only in sunlight behind the head and centrally at the base of the elytra.

Habitat:

Found under bark of a stringybark eucalyptus.

Notes:

I would guess this is family Tenebrionidae (darkling beetles) Well that was wrong, it is Carabidae (ground beetles) Here is a gallery of them http://bie.ala.org.au/species/urn:lsid:b...

Thank you Stephen.
This looks complicated, I would never have found that on my own.
You continue to be of such great help.
