Maybe when they are starting out in life a orthopteran nymph needs to feel how far the next jump is.
About 12mm long body.
In a local nature reserve dominated by small dry eucalyptus.

If it isn't this species it must be close. Who knew, that an ordinary looking katydid has kids like this?
Ahh thanks Martin. It's pretty hard to see across web images. I guess others aren't clear either.
This is also a katydid nymph.
Katydids are nocturnal and longhorned.
Grasshoppers are diurnal and shorthorned.
They are always so darned photogenic. :)
