Horn Shark

Heterodontus francisci

Description:

A small mottled brown and beige banded Shark. The head is blunt. There is a spine in front of each of the two dorsal fins. Unlike many sharks that must keep swimming to keep water flowing over the gills, horn sharks can settle on the bottom.

Habitat:

Sandy and rocky sea bed. Their they hunt hard shelled prey such as sea urchin, crabs, and mollusks.
