Ladybug pupa

Coccinella sp.

Notes:

I've not been able to find a match for this pupa other than to eliminate the Asian, seven-spotted, & convergent ladybug species that are all common in our yard. It looks similar to the seven-spotted ladybug larvae I found http://www.projectnoah.org/spottings/101... but has larger more distinct spots & a black band on its sides. Can anyone advise on the species?

We had dozens here! To my untrained eyes they all look very similar but next year I will bring anything that looks a bit different indoors & see what emerges!

I usually take unfamiliar pupae home with me and let them eclose in captivity so I am guaranteed to know what they are :)

Thanks Abby!
I found so many similar look pupa a few months ago that I stopped taking photos unless they were obviously different. Next year I will take photos of all of them so I can look more closely at the downloaded images & then post any that are different species.

I think it is a Coccinella species, and the pupae of C. septempunctata do vary considerably in markings and overall dark/light contrast. It's definitely not Hippodamia convergens or Cycloneda munda (I was hoping for C. munda but that species has a very "leggy" pupa and different markings on the 4th abdominal segment.)
