Lotus berthelotii x maculatus
This spreading bush has yellow and red flowers that resemble flames. The leaves are short, thin and narrow.
Raised planter at a local nursery in partial shade. I saw this when buying a native plant and would like to know the name so I can determine if I'd like to use it in my landscaping.
Awesome! I'm glad you were able to buy some. They'll make a beautiful addition to the garden!
they are apparently selling them as lotus maculatus 'gold flash' at plant world, i got three
Yes, i will definitely ask, it is frustrating to see people just rip pieces off plants at the botanic garden. id at least be more inclined to let someone have a cutting if they at least ask.
I will let you know what plant world nursery says!
Definitely ask. That's what I was going to do when I got more information on it to see if it would work on my yard. Let me know what they say!
Lotus berthelotii can be propagated from cuttings so if you have trouble sourcing it, you can always ask nicely for a little piece....
darn, this would have been really cool to have in our canary islands section at the garden. ill have to go check it out at least though
It was at Plant World Nursery in north Escondido along the 15. They weren't selling them but had a beautiful bed of them where the shade plants begin.
Craig, you're awesome! Sad about the plant. There are so many amazing organisms becoming extinct. So sad.
I think this is a hybrid of the wonderful but sadly extinct in the wild Lotus bertholotii: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lotus_berth...
Thanks all. The second photo really shows the "flame" look. Any ideas on the ID?
