Rainbow Mite

Rainbowia sp.

Description:

A large soft-bodied mite about 10 mm with a bluish maroon body which lacked segmentation. The 4 pairs of long legs had five segments and were red.

Habitat:

Spotted on a silver wattle (Acacia dealbata) in a park

Notes:

Adults have 4 pairs of legs as mites are arachnids but larval forms have just 3 pairs in this species.
