Rutilia Fly

Rutilia sp.

Description:

A very big fly with a brown abdomen that had short stiff black setae. Head and thorax were dark but could not see the details. Wings were clear. The fly could have been about 20 mm long and about 10 mm wide.

Habitat:

Flew into tea-trees in a park. Native to Australia and the Orient.

Notes:

This fly was one of the largest I've seen. This fly was actively flying around the flowers but they are said to parasitise late instars of beetle larvae, especially of scarabs. Order: Diptera
Family Tachinidae
Subfamily Dexiinae
