European earwig

Forficula auricularia

Description:

12-15 mm in length with a red-brown segmented abdomen, pale straw wing covers and brown thorax, and developed wings, large cerci (curved and flat on this one).

Habitat:

Introduced, suburban to fringe farmlands. This one was exposed after a very large log was moved in our back yard..

Notes:

This one might be paler in parts from living in permanent darkness under a log?. An introduced pest in this country causing problems for suburban gardeners and particularly small market-gardens http://biosnaps.gaiaresources.com.au/BDR... http://australianmuseum.net.au/Earwigs
