in a riverside park that is mostly unmaintained

Thank you! I would not be the least surprised if it was a european species. This area was settled by scots and irish and they brought all number of plants with them. PLus I know several people who grow mullein as an herb.

Now I have to go back this spring and tag it and get some seeds :)

Hello, Karen! Your plant is Verbascum sp., looks very similar to V. nigrum but this is European species...just little help :)
