Wow, like a crown-of-thorns starfish. The thorns look like well, thorns. But this insect is dead or about. A type of fungal attack? Analogous to http://bugguide.net/node/view/135698 ?

This bug is only about 6 mm. and it looks like it is in a net.

Looks like a beetle with a cordyceps.
