American Goldfinch (female)

Carduelis tristis

Description:

A small, sparrow-sized bird with muted yellow, slightly green, black, and white plumage. Wings and tail were tipped black with some white stripes. Small black eyes and a yellow beak. The muted colors and lack of a black cap mark her as a female.

Habitat:

I live near a temperate forest with a mixture of deciduous and coniferous trees. I also live near a small marsh. This bird was feeding on my patio.

Notes:

I did not see a male with her.
