Pink-eared Emperor

Lethrinus lentjan

Description:

Also known as Redspot Emperor, Redear Emperor, Pink-eared Bream, Redspot Sea Bream and Redear Bream. They feed on small invertebrates and worms, and grow to a length of about 50cm. Most members of Lethrinidae are able to rapidly switch on and off dark mottled patterns, spots and bars, in order to deter predators.

Habitat:

Found singly or in small groups over sandy areas of lagoons and seaward reefs, at depths of 5 to 50m. Juveniles usually found in seagrass beds. Widespread in the Indo-West Pacific region.

Notes:

This sleeping fish was just lying on the rubble when I approached it during a night dive.
