Squirrels

Sciuridae

Description:

Squirrels are members of the family Sciuridae, consisting of small or medium sized rodents. Squirrels are indigenous to the Americas, Eurasia, Africa and have been introduced to Australia. The earliest squirrels date from the Eocene and are related to the mountain beaver and dormouse among living rodent families. Squirrels are divided into 5 subfamilies, with about 58 genera and 285 species. They rely on food rich in protein, carbohydrates and fats. In temperate regions, earliest spring is the hardest time of the year for squirrels because buried nuts begin to sprout and are no longer available for the squirrels to eat. During these times squirrels must rely heavily on buds of trees. Squirrels are seen in parks, backyards, and forests throughout the world. They live in burrows or tunnel systems where they hibernate during the winter season. Their life span is 15-18 years. Gestation period is 44d.

Habitat:

Seagull Scientific name is Laridae. Plants Scientific name is Plantae. Plants, also called green plants, are multicellular eukaryotes of the kingdom Plantae. They form a clad that includes gymnosperms, ferns, clubmosses, hornworts, liverworts, mosses and green algae. Green plants have cells with cellulose and obtain most of their energy from sunlight via photosynthesis by primary chloroplasts, derived from endosymbiosis with cyanobacteria. Their chloroplast contain chlorophyll a and b which gives them their green color. Some plants are found in areas where other plants are not found. When plants share the same habitat it is called biotope. Plants live on land while others live in water. Plants that live in dry climates have a few or no leaves and store water when rain occurs. Plants that grow in shaded areas have large leaves that capture as much sunlight as possible, or climb towards the light. Plants need good rich soil, water, temperature, moisture, food, light and other biotic factors to survive.
