A worldwide community photographing and learning about wildlife
Order: Psocoptera
Small hoppers, a male and a female about 3 mm and 4 mm long respectively. Wings were tented and had alternating bands of brown and white. Body was held at an angle to the plant surface with the head much lower than the elevated wing margins. legs were long as were the antennae. Eyes were laterally placed. Pic 2 shows the two mating with the smaller male seen to one side.
Spotted on a young wattle plant ( ? species) in a suburban garden.
These insects are always on this plant. They appeared to "hop" away but this is probably just a quick take-off and landing - they are weak fliers but not known to hop.
Thanks to bayucca for confirming the ID - Psocoptera. Not able to get more specific than the order. Looks very much like Graphopsocus cruciatus from the UK.

Thanks Dominik. will do the ID tomorrow. They are very cute little insects -always together...I walk down to the plant almost everyday to check if they are there !
I would also say Bark Lice. We already had wingless flies today, so why not hopping lice ;-)...
