Malayan Water Monitor

Varanus salvator

Description:

The hole it has popped out of is, I think, part of the hotels underground drainage system, possibly a vent pipe as it should have a cover which is broken off. When I saw it I thought it was just a large lizard of some sort, Well, it is, but Water Monitors can grow to over 3 metres long and weigh 100kg or more as they continue to grow throughout their lives. Only the Komodo Dragon is bigger than this. This one is almost big enough to start breeding and will soon need to find a bigger home!

Habitat:

Hotel grounds.
