Hi Sophie! This is only a suggestion for an ident ... Let the experts confirm before you edit. This is a good reference site for British birds etc http://www.rspb.org.uk/ if you need help with idents. Nice spotting!

Looks like a medium-sized raptor, possibly an older bird. I'd look along the lines of peregrine falcon, hobby, sparrowhawk - see what is common in your area. Great shot!
