Northern Redbelly Snake

Storeria occipitomaculata occipitomaculata

Description:

These are very common around here. I often find them under rocks on warm days. This is about as big as this species gets. Docile snakes that don't bite! They also give live birth rather than laying eggs.

Notes:

They come in different colors, though brown (shown) is what I most commonly see in our area. I'll occasionally see the gray and tan forms.
