Two-colored Bolete

Baorangia bicolor

Description:

Large red and yellow bolete. The cap was red and areolate. The flesh was yellow and the stem was red. The pores were olive/yellow and bruised instantly when marked. Cap size was 8-9cm diameter.

Habitat:

Growing on the ground in a deciduous forest.

Notes:

The deep blue bruising of the pores, and the less than dramatic/absent bruising in the stem and flesh over a period of several minutes are identifying characteristics that distinguish this species from similar poisonous species, such as Boletus sensibilis.
