Wasp-mimic Reduviid

Zelurus sp

Description:

Large Assassin bug, of around 2.5cm body length. I'm not sure about the common name and what wasps it mimics, but my guess would be Pepsis sp. Colour is uniformly glossy black with a blue sheen and a white section of antennae. It sports 5 prominent sharp spines on thorax. Very good flyers.

Habitat:

Found at night in dense rainforest in the Ecuadorian Amazon region around Tena.
