Eyelash Palm Viper

Bothriechis schlegelii

Description:

An eyelash palm viper at Sedgwick County Zoo. These guys are super small arboreal snakes, reaching about two feet in length. They have a wide range of color patterns and are nocturnal. Though docile, they have been known to bite when provoked, their bites causing severe pain and necrosis, and in extreme untreated cases loss of limb and death. Despite this, they are fairly common in the exotic pet trade.

Habitat:

Native to South and Central America.
