Thyme-leaved Speedwell

Veronica serpyllifolia

Description:

This is a common wildflower in Britain found usually in open grassland. The stems grow erect, and the flowers have the typical shape of the speedwells - 4 petals with the top one slightly bigger and the bottom one slightly smaller. Flowers are very small, 6-8mm in diameter, white with bluish purple veins radiating from the centre. They have 2 stamens (like all speedwells). Flowers from May to September.

Habitat:

Most commonly found on grassland, heathland and open woods.

Notes:

I found these precious little flowers on an open grassy area near the University of Essex lakes.
