Stiffly upright or slightly sprawling, coarse bristly-hairy annual or short lived perennial. Orange flower with flattish conelike center

Notes:

The Cherokee used juice from the roots for earache. A tea and tonic can be made from the dried leaves and flowers. The plant can be used for dyeing, producing various shades of green and yellow.
