lined gecko

Description:

This is probably a lined gecko. Faint markings are barely discernable. I don't think it is Gehyra oceanica which is native to New Guinea and other Pacific islands. This specimen measured approximately 22cm total length (!), had a lightly banded tail and slightly webbed toes.

Habitat:

Spotted in house within a large yard and garden situated in semi-urban setting of other houses, gardens, and a nearby patch of disturbed remnant lowland forest. This is in the equatorial tropics of northern New Guinea.

Notes:

Geckos recorded at this location so far, include: Hemidactylus frenatus, H. platyurus, H. garnotii (?), Lepidodactylus lugubris and Gekko vittatus.

They always give themselves away by their eyes and their feet.
