Canada Goose

Branta Canadensis

Description:

Large long necked goose with dark upperparts and paler underparts grading to white on vent. The head and neck are black with white chin bar. Body is usually gray brown varies from dark brown to gray. White semi circle above black tail is visible in flight.

Habitat:

Native to arctic and temperate regions of North America, occasionally found in North Europe.

Notes:

Not to be confused with smaller Cackling Goose. Nests are usually located in elevated areas near streams, lakes, and ponds. Canada Goose population threatened to become extinct in 1950's. With improved gaming laws their population has increased to an extent that some consider them pests for their droppings. Canada Goose are a year around feature in urban environments due to removal of natural predators and abundance of food. Contrary to its natural migration routine, large flocks have established permanent residence.
