Golden Orb-Weaver

Nephila pilipes piscatorum

Description:

Large spider with silvery-grey abdomen and brown-black, yellow banded legs. This (Australian) Golden Orb-Weaver is a female, the males are tiny and brown-red in colour.

Habitat:

Found in primary and secondary forests and gardens.

Notes:

Photographed at Tolga Country Lodge on the Atherton Tableland. Unfortunately I only got a shot of the underneath of this spider, but I was lucky enough to see the male too.
