Maybe a Favolaschia species.
This looks almost like my spotting....http://www.projectnoah.org/spottings/9346080 tnx for identifying it as fungus, I wasn't even sure about that!

great pattern - I like the way it wraps around the twig. Would like to see the upper side. Could it be Favolaschia pustulosa ?
