Eastern American Toad

Bufo americanus

Description:

Small Eastern American Toad. Roughly 2.5 inches from nose to rear.

Habitat:

Living in the moist underbrush on our property. The brush was allowed to grow in an old pasture lot creating a semi-swampy thicket of willows, wild roses, and poplar saplings. We decided to allow the brush to grow as we no longer have animals that we keep in the pasture lots. This created a 5 acre swath of field growth, allowing nature to reclaim the land as it decided to see fit. I did plant some trees in various locations as well as lane ways so that walking the property is easier. The deer spend the daytime in this area, bedding down in the safe confines of the thicket. Various other animals have claimed this area as a home as well. A pair of fox and their kits are currently living in an old ground hog den, as well as many rabbits, squirrels and a host of birds that love the habitat.
