Native of Europe and Asia Minor; white, peeling bark in likeness of North American white birch which was used once to make bitch bark canoes; bark of older trees eventually becomes rough and dark colored

Habitat:

Ashland, OR; wilderness near creek, clean environment natural near mountain

Notes:

Tall; nice arching branches and elongated leaves
