African Penguin

Description:

One of only a couple of inland penguin colonies in South Africa, they are protected by walkways which must be kept to at all times. Adorable robust penguin that is a joy to watch for hours!

Habitat:

Rocky coastline in the Western Cape of South Africa, with suitable nesting sights inland slightly from the sea.

Notes:

The African Penguin is listed as Endangered on the IUCN Redlist with dramatic decline in numbers over recent years due to oil spills and depleted fish stocks as a result of over fishing.
