A worldwide community photographing and learning about wildlife
Pelecanus philippensis
This pelican species was spotted in the Ranganathittu Bird Sanctuary, on a tranquil bird-watching boat ride. All of which is in Karnataka, India. These birds were swarming the emergent layer of the trees with nests and hundreds of bats (Indian Flying Fox).
Spot-billed Pelicans, also known as Grey Pelicans, are considered colonial breeders, so they live and gather in extremely large groups. They can be seen in India, Sri Lanka, and Cambodia, generally southern Asia.
