Flame acanthus

Anisacanthus quadrifidus

Description:

Immature seedpods.

Habitat:

Xeric yard.

Notes:

When the pods dry they explode and fling their seed. I put in three plants three years ago. I now have dozens of plants, several fairly large, and have dug or pulled as many. They seem to thrive in the dry, rocky soil. The hummingbirds and butterflies love them.
