A worldwide community photographing and learning about wildlife
Calosoma scrutator
I turned this fellow up when digging a hole for a plant.
Habitat yard by Belton Lake.
One of the largest ground beetles, they can hibernate and survive the winter, living up to 3 years. They eat all kinds of moth and butterfly caterpillars, but eat more Eastern Tent Caterpillars and Gypsy Moth caterpillars than any other.
