Robber Fly

Asilidae

Description:

This long, thin, fly looking insect was about 1 inch long. Its legs appeared to be in 3 sections the shoulder end and foot end had a green colouring about them and the feet had a v shape to them. The tail end had quite a point to it. There are 7,100 different species in hte Asilidae family.

These are called Robber Flies (Family Asilidae). I wouldn't like to guess a specific species for your part of the world, but here are some found in North America:
