Aha, that makes more sense of how your finds from Sri Lanka ended up in this section! I suppose the leader of the mission changed the name... in any even, I hope that you are able to get an accurate ID. Your specimen reminds me of some of the prominent moth caterpillars, with the red head such as genus Dysylophia, Genus Symmerista, Genus Datana. There are also some Loopers that look similar as well; Genus Coryphista. The closest in overall pattern, at least to my eye is Melanachra picta... but keep in mind, I have no idea what your area hosts as far as species similar to the US--I'm just noting from physical characteristics. Caterpillars can be tricky to ID.
looks like mission name has been edited recently. i remember it was only "caterpillars and larvae" when i add this! however i will remove this from that mission. thank you Nina!
this is a lovely caterpillar--however, I'd ask that you edit out the mission association with "caterpillars and larvae of the midwestern united states" because this specimen is from Sri Lanka. If you'd like, you may want to associate it with "butterflies and moths of the world" instead.

fully agree with you Nina, sometimes rearing them is the best way to ID. thanks again :)
