Gymnopilus junonius
he cap ranges from 7 to 20 cm across, is convex, and is bright orange, orange/brown, or reddish brown with a dry scaly surface. The stem is 25 to 265 mm long, 8 to 9 mm thick, and often narrows near the base. The frail ring is dusted with rusty orange spores, the flesh is yellow and the gill attachment to the stem is adnate to sub-decurrent. It has a bitter taste, stains red with KOH and turns green when cooked in a pan. The spore print is rusty orange. "Each individual mushroom can weigh several pounds
Gymnopilus junonius is a very widely distributed mushroom which grows in dense clusters on dead hardwoods and conifers. This mushroom grows just about everywhere that decaying wood can be found.
This one was a special project i follow it since Nov 2,i put it with a Project Noah label,asking people to not destroi it and it work again in perfection(see pics# 2,3 and 4)during a month,from borning to decay,i dont put the last photo from today with him rooten.

Yeah for us is very cold, is not normal so soon ,but is not "anormal" these temps,so i think they will make it :-9

I think the left there the spores to future ones.
here we haved been 1\2ºc during the nigth,now for today we are going to haved 6ºc,so it better now,but rain is only predicted to the midle of the month,lets see,last year was a super weet winter,i hope this year dont turn up on the oposite a very drie winter,is very bad for fungi :-)

you are rigth in all senses :-) i presume he could lived for more one or two weeks if there where rain,like this with the chili nigths that we lately haved it dryed faster and colapss
1 month could be a good life span for a mushroom. the inky caps decay quite fast. Though turkey tails etc live for years together!
One month exactly:-) i put the label on the end of the first week,i maked almost 100 photos to chose only 6,it was funny,i'll do it when i found a species that grow big,and that need time to develope

Thanks Ashley,i love this species,they grow very much,the biggest in the area,this one was not so big us the ones i found last season,but is allways Spectacular,like the name said,i put it in reverse order of growing because i feel that the last photo was the best :-)
