Ploceus cucullatus
Could it be the female of a Black-headed weaver ??
I am Flemish, it's no problem in English, my French is much worse ... ;;-)
That's why scientific names are so important:-) Weavers are also very confusing and there are so many in Africa. If you're francophone we can use French. I am afraid I don't know Flemish :-(
I think you first suggestion is the right one. The second one is less yellow i think.
I still have much to learn to recognize birds, I find it terribly difficult !!
sometimes it takes me a while to answer because I need the translator for some words ;-))
Aha, the name in my book is also Ploceus cucullatus translated as Black headed weaver.
I also took another book from Dave Richards there he speaks about the Black-headed weaver also known as Village Weaver (Ploceus cucullatus)
Now wonder that i have so much doubts ;-))) Thank you so much for helping me !
Hi Isabella! According to the field guide next to me at the moment (Sinclair and Ryan) the female back-headed does not have a red eye but a dark brown eye... I don't have a Collins with me here... Another possibility on top of my suggestion for your location would be female Ploceus velatus... what do you think?
Hi Daniele,
is it only the male of the black-headed who has red-eyes ? I look in the Collins field guide of Eastern Africa.
Hi Isabella! The black-headed weaver doesn't have a red eye... I am checking a couple of suggestions for you.
