Rainbow Fungus

Trametes versicolor

Description:

A puckered and folded bracket fungus about 100mm wide. This attractive fungus looked like a spanish dancer's skirt with rings of velvety brown with alternating panels of dark purplish blue and rust brown velvet. The edge of the bracket was lined by a 2mm wide snow white growth. the underside was smooth with fine pores which closer to the base looked like long irregular flattened teeth ( pic #3)

Habitat:

This was seen growing on a dead stump of a prunus tree. The rexcent rains might explain the pure white rim of growth.

Notes:

Very attractive fungus with beautiful colours !! Also called Turkey tail or Rainbow Bracket. Quite common in the Northern Hemisphere, it is an active wood-decaying fungus. Often seen forming tiers.
