I didn't see them fly unfortunately, but looking through my bird book it looks like it could be the pale winged starling. The red winged starling's distribution in SA isn't right - pale wings are found in this region instead, so I think it is probably a pale wing. Thanks for your help!

Did you see them fly? It looks like a red-winged starling, but the red eye is throwing me off. Pale-winged starlings have an orange-ish eye, and you don't always see the white on their wings when they are sitting. But if you saw them fly, that should tell you the difference easily. Pale-winged starling would have shown white on the wing in flight and red-winged is just a chestnut color.
