Vernonia noveboracensis

Description:

Tall, woody plant with a reddish stem. Large, lanceolate leaves are green with reddish veins. Flower heads are an intense purple and grow in clusters to form a spray. They are attractive to many different types of insects. Native to Eastern North America.

Habitat:

Suburban, growing around a culvert area.

Notes:

Similar looking to Giant Ironweed, (Vernonia gigantea), but typically has more
