Walkingstick

Diapheromera femorata

Description:

Walkingsticks have a greatly elongated, almost cylindrical body with a long thorax, long abdomen, long threadlike antenna and slender legs on the front, middle and rear portions of the thorax. There are short, 1- segmented cerci at the tip of the abdomen. Nymphs are green, becoming a twiglike brown at maturity.

Habitat:

Dry prairie in section 39 of the LBJ National Grasslands.
