it can help identifying pines by the size and number of needles per bundle. next time you go by, try holding onto one needle and follow it down to the base where the branch is. at the base, the needles are clumped together in a 'bundle'. i know that the pinus canariensis has 3 needles per bundle and are usually 8-12 inches long.

You're so right Jemma. I love the little pineapple-top hats too.

jpratt001, I don't know what you mean by bundle exactly ,but I can count next time I visit that place.
interesting question though!!
ive seen canary island pines that look like this and they have long needles. do you happen to know how many needles per bundle it is?
Thnx Leanna!
