Yes, reishi is a wood-loving fungus; there are quite a few in the area. I've checked these mushrooms recently but they have not changed much; they still have the doughy texture that is unlike reishi. Appreciate the suggestion though.

Could be a young Reishi - Ganoderma lucidum. I've seen them growing in wood chips.
