Description:

A soft-needled with considerably smoother bark, especially at a younger age. Needles are long and branches are opposite.

Habitat:

North American subarctic and temperate woodlands. Also a common ornamental.

Notes:

Pines grow with radial opposite branching up the trunk. "Every 'whorl' is considered a year of growth." -Kevin Lube
