This is just the shell of a chrysalis. A small hole in the top is where a parasitic wasp or fly emerged. All that is left is an empty swallowtail chrysalis with the typical silk thread in the midsection.
The garden is about half an acre of native plants specifically planted for wildlife. The main water source is a pond that is filtered by two gravel streams. It is on a peninsula by Lake Lewisville.
