Argia fumipennis violacea
OK, I admit I'm still learning to identify damselflies -- a little help, please! I spotted this damselfly perched on vegetation along Paul Spring.
"Paul Spring Park," one of seven small parks owned and maintained by the Community Association of Hollin Hills, Fairfax County, Virginia USA. Paul Spring is a small year-round stream that flows through Paul Spring Park. Related Resource: http://waltersanford.blogspot.com/2010/1...

My thanks to "jgomeau" and "mattewryanre" for their helpful comments, and thanks to "MayraSpringmann" for her kind words!
Absolutely, Argia fumipennis violacea. The humeral stripe with the fork and the triangular black markings on the side of the abdomen and the entirely black segment seven are indicators of the species.
Nice pic!
I believe you are correct! Cool find!
My best guess is a female Violet Dancer damselfly (Argia fumipennis). Can I get a witness? http://bugguide.net/node/view/301955
