Asplenium bulbiferum
A beautiful soft clumping fern with lobed fronds. The growing tips of the mother fronds had baby fronds arising from bulbils. These baby fronds are the "chicken"; they were paler in colour on this particular plant and were quite striking to look at.
This fern is native to Australia and New Zealand. This was spotted growing in a state forest. Grows in shady moist areas.
This spotting is especially for Emma, who says in one of her comments that she loves leaves and "leaf-arrangements" . These ferns are sold as ornamentals and I have one growing in my garden. I have propagated several baby plants from the chicken fronds that fall-off when they are about 2 inches high. they love the shade as do most ferns and are very pretty. They also produce spores for propagation. I just learnt that the fronds are eaten as vegetables !!

Here is a mission on ferns run by Scott who is extremely knowledgeable. It is Local . You could browse thru it ,till it becomes global!
I agree Leuba. Leaves are beautiful! .
True ,there is a lot of beauty around. Every little aspect of nature is fascinating!
I am learning something new on PN everyday.
I just discovered that our local "mule Deer" has fawns which are spotted and that totally threw me by surprise.
Nature never ceases to surprise or amaze.
This fern is is really interesting! I can imagine how the contrast in color of the baby fronds adds to the beauty. Also the fact that " Ferns" are edible is something so new!
again, Emma, you inspired me to take a photo of a plant that I've been taking a little bit for granted all this time. There is really so much to beauty to enjoy, isn't there? - I feel sorry for all those who miss it all...
Thanks so much Leuba!! Thanks for sharing this beauty from Australia! i am overjoyed. :))
